A rare and highly distinctive vintage pendant brooch dating to circa 1950, beautifully crafted in solid 18ct yellow gold. This exceptional piece features a striking oval malachite surround, expertly cut and polished to highlight the rich, natural banding of the stone.

At the centre sits an intricate micro mosaic panel, meticulously composed of tiny coloured tesserae forming an architectural scene. The craftsmanship required to create such fine mosaic work is extraordinary, each fragment is individually placed by hand, making every example unique and impossible to replicate exactly.

Finding a piece of this quality, combining natural oval-cut malachite with detailed mosaic work, is exceptionally rare. The precision needed to cut the malachite to frame the mosaic perfectly demonstrates a high level of workmanship typical of mid-century Italian ateliers (most likely Italian in origin, although unsigned).

The brooch is fully convertible, with a discreet hinged mechanism allowing it to be worn both as a pendant and a brooch, offering versatility and timeless elegance.

Now approximately 70 years old, the piece remains in very good vintage condition, with only light surface scratches consistent with age and careful wear.

A truly special collector’s piece, rare, beautifully preserved, and worthy of its value due to the craftsmanship, materials, and scarcity.

Not for the world. Why, man, she is mine own, And I as rich in having such a jewel As twenty seas, if all their sand were pearl, The water nectar, and the rocks pure gold.
